Photos: Mosaic murals brighten new Verona Road intersection
As part of Wisconsin DOT’s Beltline/Verona Road project, several new public artworks are now on view, created over the past year by artists and community members.
The works, "Abundance (2015)" by Marcia Yapp, "The Light Box (2015)" by Reginald Baylor Studio, and "Feed the Dream (2015)" by Elizabeth Doyle, were created with community participation through both the Allied Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood Association and the Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood Association.
Freedom tile mosaic
The “Freedom” tile mosaic mural, one of four between the Beltline Frontage Road and Britta Parkway, was designed by community mosaic artist Marcia Yapp and created by Yapp and community residents.

People Mural
The Verona Road area "people mural" features people and typical activities in Marlborough Park and other locations in the Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood. Shown here are dog-walking, soccer, basketball, a Little Free Library, a community garden, barbecuing and biking.

The mosaic tile Flora mural overlooks Britta Parkway and can be seen from the pedestrian/bike path on the south side of the Beltline, or at a distance from the north side of the Beltline.
Tracers of largest mosaic mural
These four girls made the tracing that resulted in the largest glass mosaic mural. In all, 77 tracings were done. Artist Elizabeth Doyle narrowed them down to 11 figures in five different murals.

Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood workshops
More than 50 people participated in creating the tile mosaic murals during five and a half months of workshops in the Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood under the tutelage of artist Marcia Yapp, far left.
Finished marsh mural
The finished marsh mural, visible from the West Beltline Frontage Road near Whenona Drive, features birds and plants found in the Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood.
Roundabout mosaic murals
Three "action figure" murals catch the sunlight on their mirrored outlines. To see them well, one must be on foot rather than in a moving vehicle trying to negotiate the roundabout under Verona Road.
Lightbox 1
The lightbox, created by artist Reginald Baylor, is the third art project funded by the Verona Road reconstruction project. It is located at the top of Allied Drive.
Lightbox panels
Six panels of the lightbox show a myriad of activities that artist Reginald Baylor gleaned from talking to residents in the Allied Drive area.
