The canines of the State Journal celebration National Dog Day
It's National Dog Day, so we want to show off our favorite pooches. Take a look at the dogs that run the households of State Journal staffers.
Fezzik
Fezzik, who belongs to State Journal Editor Kelly Lecker, is a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix who likes to eat carrots and shoes.
Gem
Here's Gem in her favorite pose: In the car, with head out the window, going to the dog park.
Ziggy
Ziggy, aka “Little Wolf,” loves to sniff Madison.
Sunny McBunnington
Sunny is a bunny. She is four.
Emma
This is Emma. She loves sleeping, cuddling, being a reading partner, playing with yarn and batting around her bell ball which annoys her owner but she tolerates it. Her nickname is Chatty Kathy because she always has something to say.
Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter is a sweet cat who came from the Dodge County Humane Society who lives in Beaver Dam. He is seven years old and enjoys napping.
Ginger
Ginger is a 13-year-old calico who isn't afraid to drink from Arlo and Juno's water bowl, though such trespassing often ends in a lot scrambling about.
Benjen
Benjen takes relaxation to a different level.
Pookie
We adopted Pookie from the Dane County Humane Society in 2008 so we believe she is around 17 years old. She continues to be one of the sweetest and most social animals we have ever owned.
Fig and Rosie
Fig, left, our mixed-breed pup, and Rosie, a stumpy tail cattle dog, are companionable playmates. When one finds a stick or toy to chew on, the other one doesn't try to snatch it away but instead watches and waits until her sister is done before picking it up.
Russell and Darwin Wahlberg-Gallegos
David Wahlberg's road trip dogs, Russell, 10, and Darwin, 11, returned from Utah last year.
Floyd

Ants and Bobby Hansen
Crime reporter Anna Hansen is the proud mother of two smelly rats named Ants and Bobby (Robert when he's in trouble.) The boys enjoy cut up berries, nesting under the couch and eating chips from the garbage.
Kipling
Kipling is our 2-year-old mixed breed rescue dog. He's named after the British writer whose name was inspired by one of our favorite places in England, Lake Rudyard.
Bella
Bella is a puppy mill mama rescued by For the Love of a Boxer Rescue & Sanctuary of Wallace, Michigan, who now is living the good life with State Journal reporter Jeff Richgels and his girlfriend Susan Dyhr.
