Students in a newly launched apprenticeship program between UW Health and Madison Area Technical College have embarked on a three-year program that not only lets them earn an associate’s degree while getting hands-on training, but also guarantees they’ll get a full-time surgical technologist position when they’re done.
UW Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Alan Kaplan announces a new registered apprenticeship program for surgical technologists. The three-year program was formed as a collaboration among the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Madison College, Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin and UW Health.
Logan Myhre and Danielle DeWitt, two of six students accepted into a new registered apprenticeship program for surgical technologists, were drawn to the program for a number of reasons, including the ability to plan for career growth and to get paid while going to school.
