New home, same mission: Specialty clinic provides free care to the uninsured

For more than 20 years, brain specialists, eye specialists, skin specialists and other specialty care doctors have been treating uninsured patients for free in a cramped basement space in Middleton.
Dr. Tim Docter said Specialty Care Free Clinic's move to Madison this year from Middleton puts it close to Access Community Health Centers, which refers many patients, and SSM Health, which provides services. "We're in that medical corridor where we'll get noticed more by our medical peers," he said.
Specialty Care Free Clinic has more space in its new location on Emil Street, off Fish Hatchery Road near the Beltline, than it did at its previous location in Middleton.
Michell Lambarri, who has been coming to the Specialty Care Free Clinic since she was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2017, tells Joanne McCann about her recent seizures.
Specialty Care Free Clinic, started in 2001 in Middleton, moved in January to 1409 Emil St. on Madison's South Side, with an open house scheduled for April 26.
