10-digit dialing: what you need to know
All Wisconsin phone customers will need to dial 10 digits for all calls beginning Sunday. But some things will not change, including:
Your phone number.
The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services: a local call will remain a local call regardless how many numbers you dial.
Existing three-digit numbers -- including 211, 311, 411, 511, 711, 811, and 911 -- will continue to work as usual.
You will still need to dial 1 before the area code for long-distance calls.
Customers will continue to dial a prefix (such as “9”) when dialing from a multi-line telephone system (e.g., in a hotel, office building, etc.) as required;
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can still be reached by dialing 1-800-273-TALK (8255) even after the 988 code is in effect in July.
