Dane County man, La Crosse National Guard member charged in connection with Jan. 6 riot at U.S. Capitol
Two Wisconsin men, including one from Dane County and one who is a member of the Army National Guard, have been charged in federal court in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Brandon Nelson, 29, of Dane County, and Abram Markofski, 24, a Guard member from La Crosse, were at the Capitol that day for a rally put on by former President Donald Trump while Congress was certifying electoral votes. Along with hundreds of others, they then entered the Capitol building, which was closed to the public, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
Man pleads guilty to campus-area rape witnessed in daylight
A Madison man was convicted Tuesday of the rape of a woman who was walking last year near the UW-Madison campus when she was attacked by a stranger.
Alex D. Wade, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault as part of a plea agreement under which two other charges, both misdemeanors, were dismissed.
UW-Madison graduate student arrested for alleged sexual assault on campus last weekend
Madison police have arrested a UW-Madison graduate student accused of multiple sexual assaults, including one that allegedly took place on campus last weekend, authorities reported.
A 20-year-old woman was walking on University Avenue near Mills Street around 1:50 a.m. Sunday when a man followed her, reached up her dress and assaulted her, Sgt. Ryan Gibson said in a report. The woman ran and police arrived on scene, but the suspect wasn’t found.
Death investigation underway in Sun Prairie after officers respond to welfare check
A death investigation is under way in Sun Prairie after police responded to a welfare check Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to the welfare check at a home near the intersection of South Legacy Way and Blue Aster Boulevard shortly before 6 p.m., Sun Prairie police Lt. Ryan Cox said. Police notified the public of an investigation at around 8:30 p.m. and asked that the area be avoided.
Update: Sun Prairie police say 37-year-old woman, 35-year-old man found dead from gunshot wounds
Sun Prairie police said a 37-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were found dead of gunshot wounds at a home Wednesday night.
The man’s gunshot wounds are believed to be self-inflicted, Sun Prairie police Lt. Ryan Cox said. Cox would not say if the woman’s injuries were self-inflicted or if the deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Suspect flees on bike after robbing Culver’s along Beltline, Madison police say
A suspect fled on a bike after robbing the Culver’s on the frontage road along the Beltline on Sunday night, Madison police reported.
At about 11 p.m. Sunday, a man wearing a mask and blue hoodie said he had a gun and demanded money from employees at Culvers, 2102 W Beltline, police spokesman Tyler Grigg said in a report.

A 70-year-old man faces his seventh OWI after a crash on the South Side on Saturday night, Madison police reported.
Julio A. Garrido was driving erratically on West Washington Avenue and crashed near South Park Street and Emerald Street about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, police spokesman Tyler Grigg said in a statement.
Former massage therapist gets probation, jail for 5 sex assault convictions
A now-former massage therapist was sentenced to three years of probation, with 30 days in jail as part of his probation, after pleading no contest Thursday to five counts of misdemeanor sexual assault for inappropriate contacts with clients between 2017 and 2019.
Jarrod J. Huffman, 40, of Middleton, told Dane County Circuit Judge Josann Reynolds it was “shocking” to be convicted of the charges because he said he always kept clients’ comfort in mind.

A man wanted in a violent domestic incident pointed a gun at himself while fleeing before being arrested on the East Side on Thursday morning, Madison police reported.
Officers located Trendell O. Johnson, 33, in the 5000 block of Camden Road and he fled in a vehicle for several blocks before road spike strips were successfully deployed and Johnson fled from the vehicle, Sgt. William Quast said in a statement.
Update: 1 injured in shooting that closed portion of eastbound Beltline
One person was injured in a shooting that closed a portion of the east Beltline Thursday afternoon, Madison police said.
Multiple shots were fired into a car traveling east on the Beltline near Whitney Way about 12:30 p.m., Sgt. Blake Hoefs said. The shooting stemmed from a suspected road rage incident.
