Two GOP candidates running for Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District will meet in the Aug. 9 primary, with the winner going on to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Black Earth, in the Nov. 8 general election. The term is for two years. Douglas Alexander, who is running as an independent, will also be running on the Nov. 8 ballot. The 2nd Congressional District leans heavily Democratic and includes the counties of Dane, Iowa, Lafayette, Sauk and Green, as well as portions of Richland and Rock counties.

The incumbent congressional representative for Wisconsin’s 6th District will see a younger, more moderate challenger in the August Republican primary.

Candidate Q&A: Assembly District 33 Republican Primary
In the Aug. 9 Republican primary for the redrawn 33rd Assembly District, which includes northwest Rock County and the southern half of Jefferson County, Jefferson Mayor Dale Oppermann entered the race this spring with the support of the Wisconsin GOP. Two candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination to represent Wisconsin Assembly District 43, which is currently held by Rep. Don Vruwink, who was moved into a different district through the 10-year redistricting process. The winner of the Aug. 9 primary will face Republican Marisa Voelkel. The term is for two years.
Candidate Q&A: Assembly District 45 Democratic Primary
A member of the Beloit City Council will face a Dodgeville High School teacher in the Aug. 9 Democratic primary for the 45th Assembly District. The district, which includes parts of Beloit, Rock and Green counties, has been represented by outgoing Democratic Rep. Mark Spreitzer since 2014.
The district has a 15-point Democratic lean, according to an analysis by Marquette Law School research fellow John Johnson. The winner of the Aug. 9 primary between Clinton Anderson and Benjamin Dorscheid will go on to face the sole Republican candidate Jeff Klett on Nov. 8. The term is for two years.
