Streets in Lake Ivanhoe are named after prominent African American people and places. Crispus Attucks was of African and Native American descent and the first person killed in the American Revolution. Paul Laurence Dunbar was an acclaimed African American poet.

Founded in 1926 as a resort by African American residents from Chicago, the development, no longer a resort, is now a collection of about 60 homes. On Saturday, the property’s past was recognized with the installation of a marker from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Anglin Family Nature Preserve dedicated; 120-acre preserve identified as a Conservation Opportunity Area

The Geneva Lake Conservancy has completed the purchase of two properties totaling 42 acres adjacent to Lake Ivanhoe and its wetlands that will link with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources land to form a 120-acre nature preserve, dedicated as the Anglin Family Nature Preserve on Oct. 28.

History and conservation were both recognized Oct 28 at the dedication of the new Anglin Family Nature Preserve at Lake Ivanhoe in the Town of Bloomfield. The name of the 42-acre nature preserve, purchased recently by the Fontana-based Geneva Lake Conservancy, Inc., honors Frank Anglin, one of the founders of Lake Ivanhoe, Wisconsin’s first African-American resort community.
