A coalition of State Street business owners is asking the city for help to attract new businesses, help those that remain and to improve safety on the street after months of closures due to COVID-19 and violent protests.

A coalition of State Street businesses pleaded with the city on Monday to improve safety, offer subsidies to attract new businesses and to temporarily convert the street into a pedestrian mall.
Scores of businesses remain boarded up on State Street, but a series of proposals by a coalition of State Street businesses is asking for city help in make the street to a more welcoming destination again. One of the proposals would be to turn the street into a pedestrian mall, which would create more space for outdoor dining and shopping.
