Families received their first look at an upgraded school Thursday during an open house at S.C. Johnson Elementary, 2420 Kentucky St. Renovations include more modern learning spaces, a new gym, and safety and security updates. The upgrades were funded by a 30-year, $1 billion capital referendum that passed in 2020. Tuesday is the first day of class at Racine Unified School District. Other referendum-funded work at RUSD includes a new Schulte K-8 School, Olympia Brown expanding to a K-8 building, renovations at Horlick High School and updates to Mitchell K-8 School.
