Students dug holes with shovels and put plants in soil as part of creating a new pollinator patch Wednesday at Mitchell K-8 School, 2701 Drexel Ave. The pollinator patch is intended to help filter groundwater and increase the area’s biodiversity. United Way of Racine County and the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network helped fund and plan the patch. Several area schools have pollinator patches, including Fratt Elementary and Knapp Elementary in Racine.
