Editorial: Innovative ideas like the pop-up dinners should be encouraged, not discouraged

Lake Geneva Country Meats recently obtained a temporary lease for the former Flemings Ltd. store building, 711 W. Main St., to partner with local nonprofit organizations to host pop-up dinners in the building. The pop-up dinners have since been cancelled after city aldermen have decided to hold off voting on temporary liquor licenses for the events. Lake Geneva Country Meats opened a short-term pop-up shop at former Fleming’s during Winterfest, selling cheese and brats. Over Valentine’s Day they opened a pop-up donut shop. Pictured is Bridget Leech, the store’s marketing and events manager, and Nick Vorpagel, the company’s vice president.
Sprecher's, which was attached to the Cove hotel, announced in March 2021 that it is closing and rebranding. It's now Lake City Social.Â
