With summertime among us, it is vital that we keep our skin protected and safe from harmful UV rays. There are a lot of options now on the market, making it challenging to choose the right one for your skin. Here’s what you should keep in mind. Functionality Don’t let prices dictate what you deem to be an effective SPF. Affordable SPFs from reputable brands are often just as effective as high-end, overpriced versions. Ingredients Effective SPFs should contain both UVA and UVB. UVA protects the skin from aging, and UVB protects the skin from the sun. Fragrance It's important to understand your skin type when buying SPF. If you have sensitive skin, it's best to avoid fragranced SPFs, as they can irritate your skin’s barrier. SPF Numbers Opt for higher SPF products such as SPF 30-50. Lower SPF products, such as SPF 10-15, offer drastically less protection and can lead to skin damage. PA+ Rating PA+ rating is the standard of protection offered by the sunscreen against UVA rays. Ranging from low to extremely high levels, opt for PA+++ to ensure sufficient sun protection.
