Emergency declaration related to July 3 storm ends
The Lake geneva City Council has rescinded the emergency declaration related to the storm that hit the area July 3.
Now that city crews have completed a second round of curbside brush pick up, they are currently in the process of removing downed trees and branches from the city parks.
The Lake Geneva City Council on July 27 unanimously approved rescinding the city's emergency declaration related to the severe storm that struck the area July 3.
Mayor Todd Krause issued the declaration on the day of the storm, which caused damage throughout Walworth County.
City officials extended the declaration July 13 to allow Public Works crews to work extended hours to continue removing debris from properties and city streets.
City Administrator Dave De Angelis said crews completed a second round of curbside brush pick-up July 24, and will conduct a final storm debris collection beginning Aug. 3. Residents are asked to place any remaining storm-related debris at their curbs by Aug. 2.
After the final curbside collection is completed, residents may dispose of storm-related debris at the city's brush drop-off site, 1065 Carey St., from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Crews now are removing debris from city parks and working on other projects.
City officials are assessing damage in anticipation of applying for disaster relief funds. Initial estimates indicate Lake Geneva incurred about $104,000 worth of expenses. The city could be reimbursed about 70%.
"We only had to show $43,000 worth of expenditures to qualify for the disaster relief fund," De Angelis said. "We don't have all the numbers in from our outside contractor yet, so that will drive that number up, as well."
The Disaster Response Team, which assisted with storm damage assessments and clean-up efforts, reported that it logged about 735 volunteer hours, registered about 51 volunteers and received about $3,000 in donations to help people who were affected by the storm.

■„ Approved massage establishment license renewal application filed by Kate's Healing Hands, LLC, 601 W. Main St.
