Veteran 36-year career firefighter Ken Larsen, of Lake Geneva, undergoes treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for occupational cancer — Stage IV esophageal and liver cancer diagnosed in February and June 2023 respectively. Pictured with his wife Kathy, Larsen is currently assigned to light duty in his roles as firefighter and hazardous materials team leader with the Lake Geneva Fire Department and as a lieutenant with Illinois' Huntley Fire Protection District. The Lake Geneva Firefighters Association and Huntley Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4106 are holding a benefit fundraiser in support of Larsen on Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 4-11 p.m. at Lake Geneva House of Music, N3241 County Hwy.
