A 16-year-old boy, of Madison, was taken to the Dane County Jail Friday on tentative charges of first-degree attempted homicide and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, Sun Prairie police Lt. Kevin Konopacki said. The boy was identified as the shooter from the incident. He was taken into custody as Sun Prairie police, with the help from several Dane County agencies, executed four search warrants.

A Madison father was charged Monday with first-degree reckless homicide for the death in May of his 7-week-old son.
A criminal complaint states Arkeem L.D. Ashley, 24, could not explain to investigators how his son sustained a number of injuries to his head and extremities, other than an accidental fall that Ashley said happened earlier while he was holding his son.
Doctors said the fall wouldn’t have explained all of the injuries.
Man whose arrest sparked protest pleads guilty to misdemeanors, receives no additional jail
A Madison man whose arrest in June sparked a protest that led to a night of violence Downtown pleaded guilty Monday to four misdemeanors and received time-served sentences.
Devonere A. Johnson, 29, who was also prosecuted in federal court on extortion charges, pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct, one count of resisting arrest and one count of criminal damage to property as part of a plea agreement with District Attorney Ismael Ozanne.
Sentences of 30 days in jail for each of the convictions, all deemed as having been served by Johnson while he was in jail between late June and early October, were part of the agreement, which was accepted by Dane County Circuit Judge Julie Genovese.

Beloit police arrested Mario T. Tucker in connection to a shooting homicide that took place Monday morning, the department said during a press conference.
"The suspect and the victim were having a disagreement and the witnesses stated that the suspect shot the victim," Beloit Police Capt. Andre Sayles said during the press conference Monday afternoon. Early investigation indicated that the disagreement was over profanity used toward other residents of the home where the victim and suspect both lived.

An officer woke up a homeowner after the man's Lexus was spotted going 120 mph on the Beltline early Monday morning, Madison police reported.
The white Lexus was spotted by law enforcement going around 120 mph on the Beltline near Broadway shortly before 3 a.m. The driver blacked out the vehicle’s lights and the Lexus was last seen heading inbound on Rimrock Road, police spokesman Joel DeSpain said in a statement.

The Sun Prairie Police Department has referred criminal charges for the minors involved in an incident last month when a 16-year-old Madison boy accidentally shot himself in the head using a stolen gun.
Sun Prairie police responded to the report of the boy with a gunshot wound to the head in the parking lot of the Palace Cinema Movie Theater on Nov. 18 at around 3:40 a.m., Lt. Kevin Konopacki said. The investigation into the shooting found the boy accidentally shot himself in the head when he was passing the stolen gun to another minor seated in the backseat of a stolen vehicle.
Man charged for racist graffiti pleads guilty to other charges, awaits mental commitment
A 71-year-old man who was accused of spray-painting racist graffiti on several buildings in the lower State Street area will face a mental commitment determination after the graffiti charges were dismissed, but he pleaded guilty but not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to several other charges.
John G. Englert, of Madison, entered the guilty/not guilty plea to felony bail jumping for committing new crimes while he was free on bail in another felony case. The plea, known as NGI, means guilty of the crime but not legally responsible for it.

Sun Prairie police are investigating a car vs. car shooting Wednesday night that is believed to be targeted.
Officers responded to the intersection of W. Main Street and Clarmar Drive after multiple gunshots were reported, Sun Prairie police Lt. Kevin Konopacki said. The targeted shooting is believed to have been between the occupants of the two cars, a dark sedan and white Nissan Pathfinder, based on the initial investigation.
Damage at museum store at Overture Center prompts more charges against man
A man previously charged with damaging a Madison police vehicle and looting and damaging several businesses Downtown during riots in late May was charged Wednesday with looting and causing damage at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s store at the Overture Center.
A criminal complaint filed against Anthony M. Torres, 20, of Madison, states that overall damage at the Overture Center was at one point estimated at $400,000, some of which included glass, windows and doors at the art center’s shop. It is unclear from the complaint when that assessment was made or how accurate it was.

A North Blackhawk Avenue homeowner contacted police about 5:30 a.m. Monday after discovering someone had entered his parked and unlocked SUV overnight, stealing his shotgun and hunting jacket, police spokesman Joel DeSpain said in a statement.
