Instead of spending tens of millions of dollars firing UW football coach Luke Fickell, the University of Wisconsin athletic department should use the money to buy better players.
Fickell is going to need fans’ support to succeed
I agree completely with Thursday's letter to the editor "Don't blame Fickell for broken college system."
I heard a lot of people complaining about University of Wisconsin football coach Luke Fickell after Saturday's game, so I looked up his stats. Most revealing:
Money has dramatically changed the nature of big-time college football. Not only are the coaches paid in the millions of dollars, but athletes throughout the athletic department will receive a total of about $22 million plus name, image and likeness contracts.
As a UW-Madison alum and donor, I have no words for how disappointed I am in the profound lack of leadership from Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin on the football debacle.
Funny how "fickle" University of Wisconsin football fans are.
For all of the calls to fire UW football coach Luke Fickell, the fans seem to forget the person responsible for this fiasco: athletic director Chris McIntosh.
The Wisconsin Badgers' beatdown by Iowa was the worst loss I have ever suffered through. I can only think of one solution. Our athletic director Chris McIntosh should be fired. UW football coach Luke Fickell and his entire staff should be gone.
Recall that University of Wisconsin athletic director Chris McIntosh fired Paul Chryst and hired Luke Fickell to take the football program to another level.
After a great deal of soul-searching and after nearly 50 years as ticket holders, my husband and I have decided not to renew our season tickets for Badgers football.
The Luke Fickell experiment has failed miserably. Wisconsin football coach Fickell has the Badgers heading in the same direction as Don Morton did decades ago. We need to get rid of him and find our next Barry Alvarez.
I am struck by the language of doom and gloom in the wake of the Badgers football team’s dismal final-game showing against Minnesota. I confess I also felt a free-fall of despair, and I’m not that much of a football fan. (Badgers basketball is a different matter.)
Wisconsin football -- what a joke.
Jim Polzin's column on Saturday, "Once proud now sunk,"Â indicated that we should not expect an exit interview for Wisconsin football coach Luke Fickell. He has too good of a deal for him to want to leave. It's too expensive a buyout for UW to initiate the parting of ways.

Badgers fans love to win. But more important than any championship are the lives and wellbeing of the student athletes in red and white. They face enormous pressure to succeed in their sports, often with scholarships and additional compensation at stake.
