Wisconsin men's basketball fans revel in upset of No. 3 Marquette
Wire-to-wire winner
Shaka Smart has had three consecutive shots at Wisconsin & in his hometown of Madison, he has failed to get a win, as the Badgers led wire-to-wire in a 75-64 upset of the 3rd ranked Warriors. Max Klesmit shot 3’s throughout the 1st half as Wisconsin led big time in 2nd chance pts

Stand on business
Start to finish the most complete game we’ve played so far. Excellent win.

Ha, I see what you did there
Total team domination. MAX-imum effort. Owned the boards. Survived the run. Fantastic from the line. Led the whole way. Crowd was awesome. Everything you’d want in a victory over Marquette. Gard with another win over a top 5 team!

Fun to watch
Love this win. Badgers looked tough, focused, and hungry. Dominated against #3 team in the country. Keep it rolling, Badgers! pic.twitter.com/PAoxENQPg1

Growth shown
Such an impressive performance. All the new guys seem to be getting comfortable and the physicality of this team is definitely improved.

Also ... made every front end? Who is this team? Great composure down the stretch. Win takes pressure off next two. #gobadgers
Something to monitor
If Klesmit can do that more often they'll be a Big Ten contender

It's been a minute
Holy smokes! A court storm! Haven’t seen that in a while. Fantastic game. I knew Marquette would come out guns a blazin’ in the 2nd half but the Badgers weathered it well with defense, few turnovers and free throws!!

A+ fun!!
Tough day
What?! Some of us chose golf over hoops. I have the VHS in the DVR to capture the OMG!

Making shots helps
Guess “that style of play” does work. Who knew??
— Jon Corbett (@Jon_Corbett) December 2, 2023
That hits deep
Max Klesmit is the player that Marquette fans claim Tyler Kolek is.
— Craig Smith (@smithcp1) December 2, 2023
Winning weekend
Start to finish good clean basketball, out hustled Marquette on the boards and 2nd chance points, made them uncomfortable in their offense. Hope this is a good sign for the Bucks and Packers this weekend too!
— Josh (@jpdavis1982) December 2, 2023
Rivalry runs deep
It will never not be glorious to beat Marquette. All credit to Coach Gard and these players for a huge early season win that will definitely help come tourney time.
— Russ Evansen (@waunaruss) December 2, 2023
Plenty to celebrate
Stood in there and absorbed their best blow. Best win in a few years!!
— Randall Kohl (@crandallkohl) December 2, 2023
Crashing the glass was fruitful
Huge rebounding advantage! Klesmit was fire in the first half. When the 3s dried up in 2nd half these guys brought it down low. Great offense, outstanding defense. Coaches!Athletes!Fun game.

A happy Saturday
Wow. Wow. Wow. They played a magnificent game. Almost as perfect as you can get. Thank you Baderger mens basketball. So fun to watch.
— Pam Ashe (@pamashe1965) December 2, 2023
In-state talent showed, too
I respect and follow both programs. Usually one program needs more than the other. Today equally important. Definitely my favorite basketball game of the year. Definitely helps #UW RPI
— Bob Lewis (@AppletonTech) December 2, 2023
And that matters
Last year and early season struggles paying dividends now. Tough couple games coming up still but love the want-to this team has been showing in Ft. Myers and today. They looked like they wanted it more than Marquette
— Frank McAllister (@UncleFrank528) December 2, 2023
The standard is the standard
Anyone not thrilled to beat the #3 team might need to re-examine their standards.
— Jeremy Rosen (@jnrosen) December 2, 2023
Finding weaknesses
Took advantage of Marquette's weaknesses. 1) Rebounding 2) No offense without turnovers. 3) Kolek only goes left. Scoring drought and 2nd half offensive sets out of timeouts remain a concern. Hopefully, some other guys can start making shots. Solid outing.

Team could be dangerous
Badgers played tough D against Marquette. Those new guys Storr and Blackwell are gonna be good. Wahl is back and if Essegian gets going...lookout.
— pb_Wisco (@pbubon) December 2, 2023
Three years running!
The question has been answered. Best in the state. Liked the energy level, the D and the game plan. Keep it going Badgers!🏀

Cautiously celebrating
Love it. I am cautiously optimistic. Let’s see how they do with these other elite teams coming. Hoping it wasn’t just the rivalry that fueled them and that they can consistently be playing at this level.

GREAT WIN ..was worried they would blow it as Marquette came back but they held strong - depth and experience paying off and hope it continues

I can’t unsee the providence game I went to but this certainly helps

Not-so-silent victory
Silent Assassin gets the most out of his starters today. And someone (Klesmit) heats up from 3. A real team win.

Old Fashioned anyone?
WE ARE….WISCONSIN! Go Badgers! Let’s all toast to @BadgerMBB tonight! 🥃🦡🥃 On, Wisconsin!
— Michael Herfel⚓️💙🤍 (@MichaelHerfel7) December 2, 2023
We'll find out more this week, too!
First off, Wisconsin played very well! With wins over a very good Virginia team, and now, Marquette, they showed they can play with anyone in the country. Number two Marquette was absolutely exposed as they always are when they play big teams.
— Coach Mac (@jamchese) December 2, 2023
You had me in the first half, just like Wisconsin had Marquette
You always want to lose games because the other team beats you, not because you beat yourselves. Not making foul shots is one of the easiest ways to beat yourselves. Badgers were 24-28 from the line today. Just outstanding.
