Preparing for their popular annual fundraising Garden Fair, a revolving procession of Fontana Garden Club members gathered at Jurg’s Greenhouse in Walworth on May 2 to plant the club’s creative signature “Kool Kontainers.” The one-day-only Memorial Day Weekend fundraiser event is scheduled for this Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine, at Pearce’s Farm Stand, W5740 N. Walworth Rd. in the Town of Walworth, corner of County Hwy. F and State Hwy. 67. During World War II, Toledo, Ohio-based Willys-Overland Co. produced 363,000 general purpose (G.P.) or "Jeeps" for the U.S. military from 1941-1945, with the versatile go anywhere, do anything vehicles quickly becomeing a favorite of thousands of Allied soldiers around the world. A successor Jeep model was built in 1950-1951 for use in the Korean War. This restored Jeep was driven in Ingalls-Koeppen American Legion Post 102's May 29 Memorial Day parade in memory of U.S. Air Force veteran Donald A. Sherman (1901-2001).
