August receives Legislator Award
State Rep. Tyler August, R-Walworth, has been honored by the Wisconsin Counties Association with a "WCA Outstanding Legislator Award" for his work on behalf of county government during the 2025-26 legislative session.
"Majority Leader August has been a reliable advocate for initiatives that strengthen communities in the 31st Assembly District and support counties across Wisconsin," WCA President and CEO Mark D. O'Connell said in a press release.
"His consistent dedication and strong leadership in addressing today's needs, while building a foundation for long-term opportunity, reflect a commitment worthy of recognition."
The "WCA Outstanding Legislator Award" is presented biennially to a select group of legislators who have represented county interests in both the legislature and in their districts.

Red Bull Rush Delivery event to return to Lake Geneva
The Red Bull Rush Delivery competition is set to return to the city of Lake Geneva Saturday, Sept. 19.
Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the event will start at noon.
As part of the competition, participants will leap from a moving boat onto a dock, sprint to deliver mail and return before the boat pulls away. The event is based on Lake Geneva Cruise Line’s mailboat delivery tours, operated by Gage Marine.
“Last year’s event was outstanding,” Bill Gage Jr., owner of Gage Marine, said in a press release. “It was the perfect collaboration between the long-standing tradition of our U.S. Mailboat Tour and Red Bull’s ability to create exciting sporting events. As we celebrate 110 years of mail delivery on Lake Geneva, we’re honored to partner with Red Bull once again and welcome this thrilling competition back for a second year.”

This year’s event will feature 40 participants, with two runners competing at a time on two docks. Competitors will have one chance to record their fastest time.
The 10 fastest runners will advance to the final round which will feature obstacles, including flower pots and boating supplies, being placed on the docks.
In the final round, participants will have two chances to record their best run. The top three finishers with the fastest combined times will win a cash prize.
Registration for participants opens on Tuesday, July 28.
Walworth County issues last of ARPA grant funding
Since its inception in 2021, Walworth County's American Rescue Plan Act grant-funding program, managed in partnership with the United Way of Walworth County, has awarded about $865,000 to 51 area nonprofits.
The seventh and final round of funding recently was awarded to 38 recipients.
"The grant-funding partnership with Walworth County has provided a lifeline to local non-profits that faced tremendous financial and operational challenges in the recovery from the pandemic," United Way of Walworth County Executive Director Brian Holt said in a press release. "These organizations do so much to support Walworth County residents. By supporting these agencies, we contribute to the resiliency and well-being of our communities."
The grant recipients for the final round include: Agape House Inc., American Legion Post 24, Aram Public Library, Bethel House of Whitewater, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Wisconsin, Big Foot Community Fine Arts Foundation, Bloom360 Learning Community, Circle of Friends Mission Thrift Shoppe, Community Action of Rock and Walworth Counties/Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless, Elkhorn Food Pantry, Geneva Lakes Conservancy, Geneva Lake Museum, Geneva Lakes Family YMCA, The Guest House by Friends, Habitat for Humanity in Walworth County, Inspiration Ministries, Join the Movement Events, Kettle Moraine Land Trust, Lake Geneva Food Pantry, Mount Zion Christian Church, New Beginnings APFV, Open Arms Free Clinic, Safe Families for Children, Southern Lakes Memory Project, Southern Lakes United Water Ski Show Team, Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills, The Community Space, Special Olympics Wisconsin, Treehouse Child and Family Center, United Way of Jefferson and Walworth County, VIP Services, Walworth County Emergency Homeless Shelter Spirit of Hope, Walworth County Food Pantry (The Bridge), Walworth County Historical Society, Walworth County Literacy Council, Walworth County Reading Project, Williams Bay School Parent Teacher Organization and Wisconsin Makers.
The agencies received between $1,000 and $9,000 each and may utilize the grants for technical assistance, consulting or other business planning services.
Road pavement project to begin on area of Highway H
Walworth County officials will begin a pavement rehabilitation project on Thursday, July 9 on Highway H, from Highway 12 to Young Road in the Town of LaGrange. The 3.2-mile project is set to include:
■ Replacement of most cross culverts and driveway culverts
■ Installing new curb and gutter at intersection corners
■ Asphalt pavement milling and pulverizing
■ Gravel base repairs as necessary
■ Construction of a new asphalt pavement surface and gravel shoulders
■ New signage and pavement markings.
As part of the project, Highway H will be closed to through traffic from Highway 12 to Young Road with a marked detour using Highway 67, Highway S and Highway 59.
Highway H will remain open to local traffic. Access will be maintained for emergency services, postal delivery, garbage collection and school buses.
Although open to local traffic, the road surface may change during construction until paving operations begin, so motorists are asked to be aware of signs and their surroundings as they travel through the work zone.
Intermittent, daytime-only full closures of the roadway to install cross culverts will be necessary. During this time, local traffic access through the work zone will not be possible. The roadway will reopen to two-way local traffic at the end of each day.
The project is scheduled to be completed around Oct. 30.

Proposed foundry project hearings scheduled
Public hearings regarding the proposed Foundry Ridge Energy Center in the town of Darien are scheduled to be held 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at the Darien Public Library, 47 Park St.
Representatives from Foundry Ridge Energy Center, LLC have proposed to construct and operate a foundry in Darien.
The public hearing will give residents an opportunity to share their opinions on the proposed project. The hearing will not include any formal presentation or debate.
