Discover Wisconsin has signed a three-year deal to become the presenting sponsor of Lake Geneva Winterfest and America's Snow Sculpting Invitational competition.
Organized by tourism group Visit Lake Geneva, Winterfest is Wednesday-Sunday, Jan. 28Feb. 1, at the Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park in Lake Geneva.
The partnership was announced by Stephanie Klett, president and CEO of Visit Lake Geneva; and Mark Rose, CEO of Discover Mediaworks, parent company of Discover Wisconsin.
This year, Visit Lake Geneva expanded the juried competition invitation to include international teams, Klett said, attracting teams from Mexico and Turkey.
Domestically, teams travel from as far away as Alaska and across the continental United States.
"We've worked hard to draw the highest caliber of snow sculptors to Lake Geneva, and that comes with a cost," Klett said in a news release. "With 15 teams of three people each, it's really important to us that we provide the best accommodations possible, so they feel special and fall in love with our area."
Rose said the three-year deal is the largest in his company's history.
"This partnership is a really big deal because of the scope and audience of Discover Wisconsin, and its affiliated businesses, Discover Mediaworks, Into the Outdoors, and Uniquely Wisconsin," Klett said. "The kind of visibility this will give the Lake Geneva region is taking us forward in a big way."
The snow sculpting competition wraps Saturday, Jan. 31.
Throughout the event several special activities and entertainment opportunities will be occurring, including a downtown ice sculpture walk and bonfires on the beach.
