Badger, Big Foot-Williams Bay compete
BADGER TRACK INVITATIONAL
Badger High School hosted a Track and Field Invite on Friday, May 1, and nine other schools attended, including Cary-Grove (Illinois), Monroe, Shoreland Lutheran, Big Foot-Williams Bay, Whitnall, Harvard (Illinois), Wilmot Union, and Johnsburg (Illinois) high schools.
Badger Boys Track
Badger boys Track came in fourth place out of the nine total schools competing with 91.5 total points, 19 behind Shoreland Lutheran who came in third place.
Even though the team as a whole came in 4th place, individually the Badger boys' team was unable to make it to first place in any event.
Several shortfalls for the team include the discus and shot-put events where Badger ended in the middle of the pack of athletes competing.
A second-place team of Lucas Murray, Adrian Murrillo, Luke Brown, and Seth Samonig in the 4x200 relay, third place finsihes by Weston Jooss in the 400 meters and Colton Jooss in the 800 meters, and several fourth and middle of the pack wins kept Badgers' point high enough to keep their place.
Big Foot Boys Track
Big Foot-Williams Bay ended the meet in fifth place with a total of 58 points.
A big high-jump first place win from Trevor Kooyenga at 6' 4", second place pole vault from Nate Goeddeke at 11' 6", and a third-place win from Julian Accula in the 200 meters kept the team in the top 5.
A shortfall for the Big Foot-Williams Bay boys' team were the several events where they ended in the bottom half of the athletes in an event.
Badger Girls Track
The Badger's girls track team has been a powerhouse this season, usually ending in the top five at events, with this one being no different and the Badgers ending in second place with 136 points.
Big wins for the athletes are two 2nd place wins for Madi Braden in the 100 and 200, 1st place in the 400 for Teagan Clausen, 2nd and 3rd place in the 800 going to Elizabeth Melchi and Autumn Carr, 2nd place in the 1600 and 1st place in the 3200 from Maelynn Smith, 1st place in long jump from Elvalis Rodriguez with 15' 10".
With a team that is consistent in the running portion of the meets, shortfalls for the team come in the form of the field events, which is very similar to the boys' team, and the fact there were no hurdlers in the 100.
Big Foot-Williams Bay Girls Track
On the girls' side of the Big Foot-Williams Bay Track team, they finished in 4th place with 72.7 points.
The shot-put team helped the team with Wrigley Grindle ending in 1st place, Brylee Parrott in 3rd, and Lorelai Southwick ending in 4th place.
The 4x100 relay team composed of Amelia Rehberg, Allie Stankevitz, Lydia Farence, and Ava Schoonover also gave the team much needed points to reach their place.
The team did really well on their field events similar to their counterparts on the boys' team, however they also had several runners or relay teams in top five, and the shortfalls come in those in the bottom half of the competing athletes that cost them team points.
Overall, all the teams competed against tough teams they don't normally compete against, both from out of their conference and from out of state (Illinois).
