Todd Krause has been elected to his second term as Lake Geneva's mayor.
He defeated District 3 Alderman Joel Hoiland during the April 7 spring election.
Krause received 1,458 votes, while Hoiland obtained 931 votes. He said he is excited to be re-elected as mayor and is looking forward to continuing to work with the Lake Geneva City Council members and city staff . The Lake Geneva mayor serves a two-year term.
"I'm obviously thrilled," Krause said. "We have a lot to get done in the next two years. We've tried to bring some civility to the programming here, and we have a great staff now."
Although Hoiland lost his bid for mayor, he was re-elected District 3 alderman by defeating former Alderwomen Peg Esposito.
Hoiland said even though he was not elected mayor, he is looking forward to continuing to serve as a Lake Geneve alderman.
"While I did not prevail in the mayoral race, I remain fully committed to serving our community and representing your voice on the City Council, meaning the residents of the Third District and the city," Hoiland said. "This election showed that residents value and engage in thoughtful representation."
Krause first was elected mayor in 2024 by defeating then incumbent Charlene Klein. The race was a rematch of the 2022 election in which Klein defeated Krause.
Besides mayor, Krause was appointed city alderman in 2006 to finish an existing term. He then was elected to two additional terms. During his time as alderman, Krause served as the City Council president and chairman for the council’s Finance, Licensing and Regulation Committee.
Krause also was a member of the Lake Geneva Plan Commission from 2005-07.
Hoiland was first elected city alderman in 2024 by defeating Pamela Wilkinson.
Both candidates were seeking to replace Tim Dunn who chose not to run for another term during that election.
Hoiland currently is a member of the Plan Commission and is the chairman for the City Council’s Personnel Committee.
He led a short-term rental ad hoc committee in 2024 to help develop an updated short-term rental ordinance, which included more defined rules and regulations related to short-term rental properties.
