CHIEFS RALLY TO WIN BOTH GAMES AGAINST BULLDOGS
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
The Big Foot Chiefs and Williams Bay Bulldogs competed in a windy Saturday morning double header with the Chiefs coming out on top for both games.
First Game
The first game started with the Bulldogs scoring 8 runs before the Chiefs were able to put any on their side of the scoreboard, with a final score of 14-13.
Freshman Kyleigh Nickels pitched all 7 innings for the Chiefs and had only one earned run.
Senior Sarena Brown pitched all the innings in the first game for the Bulldogs, having 6 earned runs against her but she made up for it in her batting and stolen bases (5).
Big Foot counted 7 errors in the first game which contributed to the score run the Bulldogs went on in the first few innings.
Williams Bay had 4 errors for the game. "Very proud of our team for crawling back into the game," Big Foot Head Coach Troy Hummel said. "Especially Senior Mylee Walter with her 2-out, 2-run RBI walk off hit to win it in the bottom of the 7th."
Big hitters for the Chiefs include Walter and senior Claire Patek, with each recording 4 RBIs in the game and senior ate Hummel and Nickels each recording 3 runs.
Williams Bay relied heavily on Brown, sophomore Tatum Hermance, and senior Kalie Stanek in their batting, with Brown recording 4 runs of her own and Hermance and Stanek each having 2.
Second Game
With the first game going to the Chiefs, the Bulldogs were unable to make their way back with a 17-5 loss.
The Chiefs had Kate Hummel on the mound for all 6 innings, with only one earned run.
"It has been really special to watch Kate play at a high level," Coach Hummel said about Kate getting her first varsity win as a pitcher this season.
Hummel had a fantastic day, with 2 runs and 3 RBIs in the second game bringing her doubleheader total to 5 runs and 4 RBIs out of her 7 plate appearances. Junior Leah Paulsen and freshman Cassidy Vilona left all they had on the plate with a fantastic 4 hit, 2 RBI, and 2 run game for Paulsen and 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and 3 run game for Vilona.
Junior Sklyer Mahley of the Chiefs had 3 of her own runs as well.
For the Bulldogs, sophomore Rori Hayes and senior Kalie Stanek pitched with Stanek pitching 4 innings with 5 earned runs and Hayes pitching 2 innings with 11 earned runs.
None of the Bulldogs had more than one run in the second game of the day, and Hermance recorded the only RBI of the game.
The Chiefs will return to conference play on Tuesday, April 21 against Delavan-Darien at home while the Bulldogs will play at Deerfield in their conference on the same day.
