Midfielders, forwards to set the pace for BFWB soccer this fall
The Big Foot/Williams Bay soccer team might have begun their season by splitting their first two games, but with a long season ahead, head coach Keith Blakeman is keeping his eyes on the Rock Valley Conference title.
"We graduated 10 seniors last year, most of whom were starters, so we are trying to find an identity and an effective way to play together," Blakeman said.
However, several players have stepped up as upperclassmen, according to Blakeman, including team captains Niall Blakeman and Alex Cudnik, as well as sophomore Gio Bernal.
"I think that Gio (Bernal) will again be an effective offensive weapon and will control the pace of our attack," Blakeman said.
Bernal finished with nine goals and six assists last year.
Senior forwards Chris Cocroft and Zac Zur round out the experienced offensive side to lead the Chiefs.
"Our defense is totally new, but center back Joe Krusinski and keeper Alex Reckamp, both sophomores, are learning fast," Blakeman said.
Reckamp has played the first two games with only three goals allowed through so far this season, a great look for this young athlete.
Blakeman said that the midfield really stepped up in the first game, showing their experience, and noted that the goals scored gave the defense a glimpse at some things to work on throughout the season
