BADGER GIRLS TARGET TITLES
HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING
The Badger Girls Co-op Swim team is ready to return to the pool this season with big goals after making it all the way State in several events last year.
Head Coach Alison Whowell returns again this season along with several State qualifying swimmers including sophomores Marlee Houtakker, Georgia Grant, and Gabi Drewek.
Junior Willow Whowell and Senior Ellie Clausius also qualified for State last year and could be key upperclassmen to watch this season as the team preps for their return to the pool.
"I would describe the team as being excited," Coach Whowell said. "We have a lot of veteran swimmers returning, and some new talent coming in. Looking forward to fun and exciting season."
Coach Whowell said that several incoming freshmen that will be new to the team have several years of a background in swimming and will make a great addition to the team.
"Keeping the girls healthy, creating good habits with stretching and technique, will help set us up to succeed as we progress later in the season," Coach Whowell said about some things that will be important to the teams success.
Several swimmers who qualified for events at state last year have now graduated, opening up spots for younger swimmers to prove their leadership.
“We will continue to shoot for a conference title as well as a sectional title,” Coach Whowell said about the team goals for this season.
The Badger team is a Co-Op team, meaning the team is comprised of athletes from several area schools including Westosha Central, Wilmot Union, Big Foot, and Williams Bay High Schools.
Last season the team went 7-0 in meets and Coach Whowell believes the Burlington and Elkhorn to be the biggest competition for them.
