Local children help bring 'Mermaid' to stage in Elkhorn

ELKHORN — Thirty-two area youths, ages 9 to 18, are performing in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Junior” at the Sprague Theater.
The Lakeland Players’ Youth Theater Group production is Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 16 at 3 p.m. Sprague Theater is located at 15 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.
For the past six weeks, the cast has been rehearsing for the one-hour musical, designed for school-aged performers. “The Little Mermaid Junior” is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated Disney film.
The songs from the Academy Award-winning film are in the production, along with three songs from the Broadway version.
In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel leaves her home to live in the world above. But she has to defy her father, the king of the sea escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.
Diana Riechers directs the production, which includes music director Paris Barker, choreographer Madison Markham and producer Nikki Rebernak. Pamela Danovich provides the costumes.

Learn more about Wisconsin's shipwrecks at new Lake Geneva library display

to Aug. 30 at the Lake Geneva Public Library.

This summer, people can learn more about shipwrecks in Wisconsin at the Lake Geneva Public Library.
“We Like to Dive Right In,” a display about the state’s underwater archeology, will be open from Saturday, June 15, through Friday, Aug. 30.
The library is located at 918 W. Main St., Lake Geneva.
As part of its History Makers Tour, the Wisconsin Historical Society is bringing history directly to local communities in every region of the state through pop-up exhibits, displays, programs, installation and other activities.
There are over 700 shipwrecks in Wisconsin waters, according to the society.
“We Like to Dive Right In” explores how underwater archeologists uncover, document and preserve the state’s maritime history.
The display will be east of the library building, on the lawn, by Cook Street.
Participating hosts are the library and the Lake Geneva Historic Preservation Commission.
