Lake Geneva residents have an opportunity to help shape the city's future.
City officials and representatives from Minneapolis-based Future iQ are in the process of developing Lake Geneva's strategic action plan, and they are asking for the residents' assistance.
The strategic plan will help city leaders set goals and objectives during the next five years.
A community survey has been posted at www.cityoflakegeneva.gov and will be available through Sunday, Jan. 11. It includes 31 questions and takes about 20 minutes to complete.
City Administrator Dave De Angelis said information will be posted and distributed throughout the community to encourage participation.
"We will have some public information out there, some posters and we will do some other things," De Angelis said. "There will be a mailer that will go out with the utility bills at the end of the month, plus we're doing a postcard just to get people informed."
Two "think-tank" meetings also are being held.
The first session, "Explore Future Trends," will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Riviera ballroom, 812 Wrigley Drive.
During the session, Future iQ representatives will discuss trends that could affect communities, "key drivers" that could impact Lake Geneva and ranking the "key drivers" that would present the best outcomes for the city.
The second session, "Build Future Scenarios," will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Lake Geneva Middle School cafeteria, 600 N. Bloomfield Road.
It will include recap of the first session, a brainstorming session to present ideas, and discussion about the least desirable and most desirable outcomes for Lake Geneva.
Residents may register to attend the "think-tank" meetings by visiting the city's website.
After the survey and "think-tank" meetings are conducted, a second community survey will be developed; a roundtable discussion meeting among Future iQ officials, City Council members and city staff will be held; focus group meetings with school officials and other city stakeholders will be conducted; and a draft strategic plan will be developed.
The final strategic plan is set to be presented to City Council in March.
On Sept. 22, Alders approved hiring Future iQ at an expected cost of about $45,000.

Members of Brownie Girl Scout Troop No. 8105 recently hosted their fourth annual Giving Tree program to support the Walworth Children's Foundation.
The foundation provides backpacks filled with food and gift cards throughout the year to families in need whose children attend Walworth Elementary School.
This year, many community members helped to support the program. One contribution came from Brooke Patterson, general manager of the Americold Darien Team, who collected the remaining ornaments from the Giving Tree and brought them to her company to ensure every request was fulfilled.
Patterson has done this for the past three years.
Additional support also came from O'Neillz Automotive, the Onvoy Division of Badgerland Plug, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Faith Lutheran Church, Exemplar Financial Network (Walworth) and the Walworth Police Department.

Lake Geneva City Council members have approved the Utility
Commission's Center Street water tower recoating project.
DENNIS HINES, REGIONAL NEWS
Two proposed utility projects have received a greenlight from Lake Geneva.
Members of the City Council unanimously approved the Utility Commission's Center Street water tower recoating project on Dec. 8 at a cost of about $420,000.
Any Utility Commission project that is expected to cost more than $250,000 must reviewed by the Public Works Committee and approved by the full City Council.
Utility Director Joshua Gajewski said the project is scheduled to begin next summer.
"We anticipate it's going to go in June, July and August of next year to high pressure wash the exterior overcoat," Gajewski said. "There's some dry riser interior improvements, as well, for the coating and a recoating of the wet interior of the tank."
Gajewski said the project should not cause any traffic issues, and it should not result in any disruption of water service.
Interchange North project approved
Council members also unanimously approved the Utility Commission's Interchange North water and sanitary improvement project, which includes replacing existing water mains, water main abandonment and sanitary sewer improvements.
The project is set to coincide with Walworth County's Highway H road resurfacing project.
"We are trying to take advantage and do utility improvements within an area that extends from what is Williams Street in the Town of Geneva," Gajewski said. "The far extent of the project is going to be just west of Sheridan Springs Road or east of Sage Street. We're planning to do an abandonment of a section of water main that is duplicated on both sides of Interchange North, as well as replacing some existing water main that is east of Sage Street."
The water utility improvements are expected to cost about $295,000, and the sanitary sewer improvements are expected to cost about $165,000.
Gajewski said the Interchange North project is scheduled to begin in April.
"We're anticipating three to five weeks worth of construction duration, and then there would be an intermediate period between the ending of our project and when the county starts their portion of the actual roadwork," he said.
Members of the Utility Commission are expected to consider bids for the projects during their Monday, Jan. 19, meeting, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. at City Hall, 626 Geneva St.
